Parish News from Father Walter

Thank you to our Parish Volunteers
December 22, 2013 ē By Father Walter

Dear Friends and Parishioners:

I am very happy to share with you the joy of celebrating the Birth of Jesus together with you and your families. It is the first Christmas with you and I feel already a home among you.

I like to thank many VOLUNTEERS who give their best (each one in their own area of service) in order to make our parish a vibrant community.
I thank also those who are engaged every day for the running of the parish and try their best to serve you.

But most of all I like to thank all of you, because you are our family, you are Our Lady of Pompeii, a community with many cultures and faces but with a unique goal in the heart: To serve God and be a small light of hope in the big city of New York.
I pray that the Lord will bless you and your family now and for the new year.

Fr. Walter

Beginning the Church's liturgical year, Advent (from, "ad-venire" in Latin or "to come to") is the season encompassing the four Sundays (and weekdays) leading up to the celebration of Christmas. The Advent season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christís second coming at the end of time and also to the anniversary of the Lordís birth on Christmas. The final days of Advent, from December 17 to December 24, focus particularly on our preparation for the celebrations of the Nativity of our Lord (Christmas).
